Empowerment & Gratitude

Between 16 exhibition halls and over 1,000 yachts, boot Düsseldorf sent a clear signal for the future of the industry in January 2026. Exhibition Director Petros Michelidakis highlighted the introduction of women-oriented sailing seminars as a direct response to feedback from many female participants, with the goal of making sailing more accessible and attractive. A central hub of this development was the Sailing Center in Hall 15, where world-class sailor Annie Lush shared deep insights into professional sailing with journalist Andreas Kling (SegelReporter/YACHT).

As a co-founder of The Magenta Project, Annie uses her experience to break down barriers. At the initiative’s stand, it was clear that the industry is changing: focusing on equal opportunities and balancing a professional career with family life. I was there to visit the stand and discuss the current state of the industry with other experts during the specialist program.

Knowledge, Network, Growth: The Seminars

This year, the fair provided a dedicated space for professional development, with a program tailored to different experience levels. A highlight was the advanced seminar “Sail. Connect. Grow.”, led by experts like Emily Penn and Annie Lush. In a separate seminar room on the grounds, the focus was on deepening technical skills and finding new perspectives on the sport.

Networking and a Special Thanks

Exchanging ideas with pros like Sanni Beucke confirmed my path: when knowledge is pooled—whether in technology, chartering, or management—old structures begin to shift. However, support often takes place away from the big stage. A very special note of thanks goes to Tania Vellen (Senior Manager Press and PR) and Andreas Krüger (Editor at Düsseldorf EXPRESS).

After Axel Dietrich, who has supported the project from the very beginning as a long-time companion and supporter, experienced issues purchasing tickets, Andreas Krüger reached out to Ms. Vellen to inform her of the situation. She reacted quickly and unbureaucratically, generously providing tickets and ensuring a smooth attendance at the trade fair. Furthermore, Tania Vellen provided access to the press center of Messe Düsseldorf. Axel Dietrich, his wife Antonie, and I also received an invitation to lunch, which featured an excellent boiled beef (Tafelspitz), fine appetizers, and desserts—a true highlight of the day at the fair. This hospitality shows just how valuable personal commitment behind the scenes truly is.

Outlook: Course for 2027

The fact that boot Düsseldorf offers seminars by women for women highlights the importance of expertise in this field. I’m heading into the coming months full of inspiration. Our connection to the fair remains strong, and I very much hope to perhaps share my expertise next year within a specialist contribution or on stage. We look forward to further advancing the vision of a modern maritime world.
